Wantirna Primary School Council is the formal governance body of the school. Made up of elected parents, school staff, and co-opted community members, the council shapes the strategic direction of the school, oversees the budget, and represents the wider community's voice in decisions that affect every child here.

What school council does

Council meets formally at least eight times a year. Between meetings, sub-committees carry the work of running a primary school in partnership with the principal and staff.

  • Sets the strategic direction of the school through the School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan
  • Approves and monitors the school's annual budget, fundraising, and major financial commitments
  • Reviews and approves school policies — from uniform to inclusion to digital safety
  • Oversees school facilities, grounds, and capital improvements
  • Liaises with the wider community, including parents, OSHC, and local partners
  • Supports the principal and staff in delivering the school's vision

Council members

Council is led by an elected President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, working alongside the Principal and additional parent and community councillors.

How to join

Parents and guardians of currently enrolled students are eligible to nominate themselves for the Parent category at the annual elections, held each March. Community members with relevant skills — in governance, education, finance, or community building — can be co-opted to fill remaining seats. To express interest or learn more, contact the school office or speak with our current President. We particularly welcome people from communities under-represented at our school, and parents who haven't served on a council before.
