Mental Health Support
Mental health and wellbeing are an important part of helping students feel safe, connected and ready to learn. At Wantirna Primary School, we take a proactive approach to supporting student wellbeing and providing help when needed.
Through Victoria’s Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative, our school has a dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader who works with students, staff and families to strengthen wellbeing support across the school.
Internal supports may include:
-
small group support programs
-
wellbeing check-ins
-
targeted activities to help students build confidence, resilience and positive relationships
When additional support is needed, we can also help families connect with external services and community organisations.
We are also continuing to build a collection of wellbeing resources to support families both at school and at home.
Our goal is to ensure every student feels supported, understood and able to thrive.
Tiered Support
Every student has different wellbeing needs, and support may look different for each child. At Wantirna Primary School, we use a tiered approach to wellbeing support to ensure all students receive the right level of care at the right time.
Our whole-school wellbeing programs support all students by building positive relationships, resilience and social-emotional skills. Some students may benefit from additional small group programs, check-ins or targeted support. For students with more complex needs, we work closely with families and external services to provide personalised support.
This layered approach helps us respond early, provide the right support and ensure every student feels safe, included and ready to learn.
