Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Fact Sheet
The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is the main government payment that helps families with the cost of approved child care,
including Before School Care and After School Care at Wantirna Primary School OSHC.
1. What is the Child Care Subsidy?
The CCS reduces the fees you pay directly to your OSHC provider. Your out-of-pocket fees depend on your family's income, activity level (such as work or study), and the hourly rate cap.
2. Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if:
You care for a child aged 0–13 years who attends an approved service.
You are responsible for paying the child care fees.
You meet residency and immunisation requirements.
You meet the activity test (work, study, volunteering, etc.).
3. How CCS is calculated
CCS is based on:
Family income
Hours of recognised activity per fortnight
Type of care (OSHC is considered centre-based care)
Hourly fee charged vs hourly rate cap (the lower amount applies)
4. How to Apply for CCS
You apply through your myGov account linked to Centrelink.
1. Sign in to myGov → Centrelink → Payments and Claims.
2. Select Child Care Subsidy and submit your claim.
3. Provide required documentation (employment details, activity hours, income estimate, etc.).
4. Once approved, confirm your child's enrolment with the OSHC service in your Centrelink online account.
5. What families need to do for OSHC
To ensure your CCS applies to your Wantirna PS OSHC bookings:
Submit your CCS claim before your child starts.
Make sure your details match exactly with the OSHC provider’s records.
Log in to myGov to confirm the OSHC enrolment when prompted.
Update Centrelink if your income or activity levels change.
6. CCS Activity Test
Your CCS hours depend on the amount of recognised activity you do each fortnight:
0–7 hrs → 0% or limited CCS
8–16 hrs → Up to 36 hrs of subsidised care/week
17–48 hrs → Up to 72 hrs/week
49+ hrs → Up to 100 hrs/week
Recognised activity includes:
Paid work (including paid leave)
Study or training
Looking for work
Volunteering
Self-employment
7. Gap Fees (Out-of-Pocket Costs)
After CCS is applied, families pay the remaining amount directly to the OSHC provider.
This is called the gap fee.
Gap fees vary depending on:
Your CCS percentage
OSHC session fees
Public holidays, absences, or late cancellations (as per provider policy)
8. Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS)
Additional support may be available for:
Families experiencing financial hardship
Children at risk
Grandparent carers
Transition-to-work circumstances
Families must apply through Centrelink.
9. Absences and CCS
CCS can be paid for up to 42 allowable absences per child
each financial year, including for:
Sick days
Family holidays
Unforeseen circumstances
Additional absences may be supported with evidence.
